The Westall Way Rewards System is a student reward program that encourages students to display The Westall Way Learning Behaviours in all aspects of College life. Students can earn ‘Westall points’ for consistently demonstrating positive learning behaviours, as well as for all one-off achievements that celebrate the Westall Way.

What are Westall Points?
Westall Points are earned for consistently demonstrating one or more of the Westall Way Learning Behaviours, or for a one-off achievement that demonstrates that students are behaving and learning in the Westall Way.

What will Westall Pojnts be awarded for?
Staff will use a scale provided to allocate Westall points to students. The following scale will require a degree of interpretation from a staff member, but points could be awarded as follows:

  • 3 POINTS - An outstanding one-off award or achievement, or a response to a situation e.g. being a buddy for a new student or helping an elderly member of the community who fell.
  • 2 POINTS - Significant contribution to a program or initiative in the College community e.g. assisting with a College tour or outstanding academic growth e.g. D to a B grade
  • 1 POINT - Consistently displaying Westall Way learning behaviours over the period of a week e.g. 100% attendance

How will the Westall Way Rewards system be implemented?
The Rewards system will utilise the points system that exists in Compass Chronicle tool. When teachers award points to a student, they will do so by adding a green Compass Chronicle entry and using the points function to allocate 1, 2 or 3 points.

When a teacher awards points it is possible to ‘tag’ multiple students one the one Chronicle entry e.g. 6 students have been punctual to class with the correct equipment. As points are collated in the Compass system, sub school staff will be able to extract point totals on a half-termly basis for the purpose of awards and possible sub school or house competitions.

Staff will be encouraged to take the time to award points to students on a daily basis. By using the above method, it is a fast and easy way to ensure that students that are consistently meeting or exceeding the Westall Way expectation are acknowledged and awarded for this achievement.

Progression of awards in an academic year
As students accumulate points for their positive behaviour, they will be presented with awards as they reach particular milestones (i.e. 25 points – Bronze award). The Westall Way ‘Wall of Achievement’ (overleaf) provides students with a pathway of achievement to ensure all students have an award to work towards. As students are successful in obtaining awards and climb the Wall of Achievement, certificates and prizes will be presented in sub school assemblies and in the case of the top two awards, these will be presented in a whole school assembly by the Principal.

Students will accumualte points over their ENTIRE time at the College. The points total does not reset each year, meaning more students will be able to achieve the awards further up the wall of achievement.
